One of the nerve centers of the city was the Mariupol Drama Theater square. Now, when 80% of the buildings in the city have been destroyed, a video recorded with a drone during last Christmas allows us to see how the war has erased everything with a stroke of the pen. The square, adorned with christmas luminous stars, brings together hundreds of people who crowd into the Christmas market that is completed with a stage where, as in many other cities in the world, musical performances are offered.
Oleksandra Matviichuk, from the Center for Civil Liberties of Ukraine has released a video recorded by the Mariupol City Council just five months ago. On her Twitter account, she laments the ravages of the war. “How happy we were”
“The same dramatic theater. But two different universes. Our peaceful city six months ago. How happy we were…”.
