Jean-Luc Brunel, 76, was in preventive detention since December 2020 accused of child rape and sexual harassment. At dawn this Saturday he was found hanged in his cell at La Santé prison in Paris. The Paris Public Prosecutor has opened a research to determine the cause of death. The investigations are in the hands of the Judicial Police. The former agent, a close friend of Jeffrey Epstein, was suspected of having organized the transportation and accommodation of young women on behalf of the American billionaire, who also committed suicide in August 2019 in his cell awaiting trial for various sexual offences. Brunel was founder of several modeling agencies. Specifically, he co-founded Karin Models in the 1990s and founded MC2 Model Management in the US, financed by Epstein himself. In August 2019, the Paris Public Prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of Epstein on French territory or against French girls. Investigators raided Karin Models’ Paris facility the following month and French media quoted Brunel’s lawyer in October 2019, who was arrested five months after US authorities also arrested Brunel. Ghislaine Maxwellconvicted of five counts of sexual abuse and trafficking of minors for the Epstein case last December.
